Oakley Road Extension

Two new single storey extensions were added complimenting and enhancing the rich historical detail of the existing house.

The preservation of the existing fabric in this protected structure underlined how we approached the design of the two new extensions. They stand alone as modern additions. A brickwork language was proposed to create a fluency between the old and the new. It is given a contemporary twist so that, while the design motif has been influenced by the existing house, it stands apart and of its time. The extensions are glazed extensively to take advantage of the aspect. The extensions absorb daylight from early morning until the mid-afternoon with the “atrium” extension created also adding some much needed extra height to visually lift the entire space. No works were carried out to the main house.
